GTRS P800: A Smart Electric Guitar Built for Modern Players

A Modern Take on the Electric Guitar

The GTRS P800 takes the familiar feel of a solid-body electric guitar and adds a layer of built-in digital control that makes it much more flexible than a conventional setup.

Its alder body, maple neck and rosewood fretboard give it the kind of traditional construction many players will already be comfortable with. The difference is what sits underneath: onboard effects, amp modelling, a looper, metronome and app control are all built into the guitar itself.

That means you can practise, experiment with sounds or put together a compact recording setup without immediately reaching for a separate pedalboard.

Built-In Effects and Smart Controls

The standout feature of the GTRS P800 is its integrated intelligent processing system. Instead of relying entirely on external pedals and processors, you can access a wide range of tones directly from the guitar.

Amp modelling and built-in effects make it easier to move from clean sounds to heavier driven tones without constantly changing equipment. The accompanying app adds another layer of control, allowing players to adjust settings and explore different sound combinations more easily.

For practice at home, this can keep the setup pleasantly uncluttered. There are fewer cables, fewer boxes on the floor and less equipment to pack away when you are finished.

Useful for Practice and Recording

The built-in looper and metronome make the GTRS P800 particularly useful for practising without needing extra gear beside you.A looper is handy for laying down a simple rhythm part and then practising lead lines over the top. The metronome is more basic, but it is one of those small features that can make regular practice more disciplined. For recording, the appeal is similar. Having effects and amp-style processing available from the guitar can make it easier to sketch out ideas quickly without building a full pedalboard or amplifier setup first. That convenience will appeal most to players who enjoy experimenting with sounds and want a compact setup that is easy to pick up and use.

Traditional Guitar Feel

Despite all the digital features, the GTRS P800 still uses a fairly traditional electric-guitar recipe.

The alder body keeps the instrument familiar in the hands, while the maple neck and rosewood fretboard give it a smooth, comfortable playing surface. That matters, because clever electronics are only useful if the guitar itself still feels good to play.

The overall idea is not to replace the experience of playing a normal electric guitar, but to build more flexibility into it. For players who like a classic shape but want modern features close at hand, that balance is one of the P800’s strongest points.

Drawbacks

The GTRS P800 will not suit every guitarist. Its biggest strength — the built-in digital system — is also the part most likely to divide opinion.

Players who prefer a simple guitar plugged into a traditional amplifier may find the app control, modelling and onboard processing unnecessary. There is also more technology involved than you would find in a conventional electric guitar, which means there are simply more features to learn and more electronics that could potentially need attention over time.

At around $799, it is also a fairly serious purchase. You are paying partly for the integrated technology, so someone who already owns a good amplifier and a collection of pedals may get less value from those built-in features.

Finally, the P800 does not have the enormous track record of long-established models from brands such as Fender, Ibanez or Yamaha. For that reason, it makes sense to view it as an interesting modern alternative rather than an automatic replacement for a traditional electric guitar setup.
